This kitten knows what her priorities are. Napping on a little warm fuzzy something-or-another, almost as if she is holding it close… Yeah. That’s the stuff happy is made of.
Now go take a nap! Holding something/someone you love, if you can. 🙂
This blog is by a wonderful person I know. He was my boss for 3 summers when I was in college, and he’s remained a friend, even though we are on different coasts. He is a family man now and has a blog where he writes down advice he has for his son.
This is a short intro into one piece of advice. His father wrote him a letter that he wants to pass on to his son. Multigenerational families who truly love each other are definitely made of happy.
96 – Avoid fighting, but not at all costs
Dear David,
This is one of my favorite photos of you and Grandpa.
Grandpa is my Daddy. His name is also David. I named you after him. That is one way that I could honor him for being such a good Daddy to me.
But before Grandpa was my Daddy, he was a Soldier. He was one of many soldiers, who together, quite literally saved the whole world, when the whole world was having a great big war. They didn’t want to fight, but they had to. Because sometimes if you don’t fight, things can get much worse.
People often want to be acknowledged for “doing the right thing” and it’s a fairly natural thing. What’s even better than doing the right thing is doing for the sake of doing it, with no regard to public credit.ÂÂ
Shawn Crawford, Source: LA Times
It never has been easy to know what to make of Shawn Crawford.
The guy got a reputation as a flake by racing against a giraffe and a zebra on a reality TV show. (He beat the giraffe, then lost to the zebra, but demanded another shot because the zebra had false-started. Crawford lost the rematch as well).
I totally remember seeing that on TV! It was called Man vs. Beast. Hee.
Or you can give him the prize a rival thinks Crawford deserves after one of the best gestures of sportsmanship I ever have heard about.
It is summed up on the home page of Churandy Martina’s website, www.churandy.com. In the lower right hand corner, Martina says: “I truly hope Crawf gets the international Fairplay award for this!”
He was talking about Crawford’s decision to give Martina, who is from the Netherlands Antilles, the Olympic silver medal the U.S. runner had won after a bizarre series of events in the 200-meter final at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Crawford can’t talk about this, said his agent, Kimberly Holland, because the race results are under appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which this week postponed a hearing on the matter to Jan. 15.
But Martina noted on the web site, “Yes!! It is true, Shawn gave me my Olympic medal back.’’ The site also has a picture of Martina wearing the medal.
Given that string for an Olympic medal is something you build your life around, I think it’s incredible that he gave back the medal. He gave it to the other person without waiting for an official judgment from the board, and he gave it without any fanfare. The only reason this news got notice is because the recipient posted about it.
Plus, this from earlier in the article just takes it over the top:
He ran in a Phantom of the Opera mask at an international meet in Italy. (The mask slipped, covered his eyes and led to his disqualification for running out of his lane).
Hee. Thanks for being so awesome, Shawn Crawford!ÂÂ
I had no idea so many zoos had gay penguins. While googling for a picture I could use, I saw that in addition to China, at the very least, US and Germany have gay penguins. That’s not even counting the various state/regional zoos in the countries.
Penguins caught stealing eggs from straight couples in an attempt to become fathers have been given their own to look after following protests.
Zoo keepers moved the male birds away from the rest of the penguins to avoid problems as hatching season approaches.
But angry visitors to Polar Land in China complained it was not fair for the males to stop becoming surrogate fathers.
Following the protests, zookeepers gave the pair two eggs laid by an inexperienced first-time mother.
“They’ve turned out to be the best parents in the whole zoo,” on zoo keeper said.
“We will try to arrange for them to become real parents themselves with artificial insemination.”
Despite being gay, it is understood the three-year-old male birds are still driven by an urge to be fathers.
He could have looked the other way, but a good Samaritan saved a woman from being butchered on a Harlem street – then chased the attacker after getting slashed.
Aboubacar Lah, 23, was waiting for a bus Thursday at about 12:30 p.m. when he saw a young woman jump Staff Sgt. Sarah Charles, 27, as she left her Air Force recruiting office on W. 125th St.

Good Press for Comcast: Heroic Deed

If you’re counting the signs of the apocalypse, add another to your list: Comcast is getting good press.
The Washington Post reports that Comcast repairman Jorge Rivera saw black smoke rising from a Silver Spring, Maryland apartment complex on Saturday, so he pulled over and used his truck’s ladder to save six people from the flames. The fire ended up injuring two people and displacing a dozen families.
After Rivera’s heroism, he stuck around the scene to answer questions and talk with reporters. When asked if he’d continue working that day, Rivera said yes; he had an appointment right down the street.
What’s going on here? Not only is Comcast working on a Saturday and saving lives, they’re keeping an appointment schedule?
